Smart pi SIP Server v1.2.1 – Release Notes

Release: July 2026

Recommendation: All users are strongly encouraged to upgrade to this version.

dotNET 10 is required for this application.

Summary

The Smart pi SIP Server is a specialised SIP Bridge designed to connect audio sources to SIP networks in a fully bi-directional manner. It functions as a high-performance audio-to-SIP gateway, making it ideal for professional public address, paging, announcement, intercom, and broadcast-style applications.

    Key Technical Features

Platform: Built on the .NET 10 platform.
OS Support: Runs on both Windows and Linux.
    Audio Support:
Physical soundcards via ALSA (Linux), ASIO, and WDM (Windows).
Virtual soundcards are also supported, including AES67 and Dante for seamless integration with modern networked audio systems.

Channel Capacity: Licenseable up to 512 channels.
Codecs: Supports Opus (high quality, low bandwidth) and PCM formats.
Call Handling: Fully bi-directional audio streaming, with Auto Answer and Auto Dial capabilities.
    Protocols & Interfaces:
    AES70 support
Comprehensive REST API for control, monitoring, and automation
Tight integration with Smart pi DVA (Digital Voice Announcement)

Management: Web-based GUI with full monitoring capabilities.
    Relationship with Smart pi PBX

The Smart pi PBX is a separate Asterisk-based PBX that provides full telephony features (extensions, call routing, trunks, etc.).
The Smart pi SIP Server acts as a dedicated SIP audio bridge, complementing the PBX by efficiently handling audio interfacing and conversion between soundcards (physical or virtual) and SIP.

    Deployment Options
The SIP Server can be deployed standalone as a pure audio-to-SIP bridge or fully integrated into the Smart pi ECOsystem, working seamlessly with other components such as:

    Smart pi DVA
    Smart pi DVA GTFS
    Smart pi DSP
    Smart pi NAM/SIP
    Smart pi NAM/Auracast
Smart pi HLP (and other endpoints)
This modular design offers excellent flexibility, scalability, and audio quality while supporting open standards and networked audio technologies like Dante and AES67.

As always, please report any issues or feedback via the service portal.
